Gavin Healy
Gavin is a qualified Neuromuscular and Physical Therapist with over 17 years’ experience treating muscular pain and injury. After working in clinical practice, he founded New Energy Therapy in 2013.
Through his clinical work, Gavin began to observe a consistent pattern: many people presenting with physical pain were also carrying significant emotional stress and anxiety in their bodies. This insight led him back to college in 2016, driven by a deep curiosity about the psychology of the mind and the profound connection between emotional and physical wellbeing, what Gabor Maté describes as “mind–body unity.”
His growing interest focused on how repressed emotions and unresolved trauma often manifest as physical symptoms, shaping his holistic and trauma-informed approach to therapy.
“Trauma victims cannot recover until they become familiar with and befriend the sensations in their bodies.”
Bessel van der Kolk (2014)
Gavin is currently an Associate Lecturer with PCI College, teaching across their Certificate and BSc programmes in Counselling and Psychotherapy. He is a certified Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist; however, his clinical focus is primarily on working therapeutically with adults.
Gavin is accredited with EMDR Europe and integrates EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS) approaches into his therapeutic work. He is currently training as an EMDR Supervisor, with qualification expected in 2026.
Gavin is currently preparing a professional workshop and writing extensively examining the relationship between stress and anxiety from disturbing memories and their physical expression within the body.

What is Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is a collaborative process based on the therapeutic relationship between the individual and the therapist. It offers a deeper, more exploratory approach, particularly suited to longer-term difficulties or patterns that tend to repeat across a person’s life.
While therapy supports people with immediate concerns, it also gently explores underlying emotional and relational experiences that may contribute to ongoing distress. Through this process, psychotherapy can foster insight, healing, and meaningful change.
What is EMDR Therapy?
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based psychotherapy approach used to treat trauma and distressing life experiences. It supports the brain’s natural capacity to heal by helping clients safely process and integrate difficult memories.
Through bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements, EMDR allows traumatic material to be reprocessed in a way that reduces emotional distress, physical symptoms, and negative self-beliefs, helping people move forward with greater resilience and ease.
